Music

I love music.   I don’t think I could live without it, or at least, life would suck a lot, if there were not music.

I play guitar and I sing.  I’ve been in a bunch of (mostly) cover bands over the years, just for fun (and a little money - very little). I’d like to learn some other styles of guitar and perhaps piano at some point.  I’m self-taught on guitar, don’t read music, but I have a very good ear and can pick things up very quickly. Music is in my genes. My father was a singer (well, he still sings, just not professionally) and plays piano.  My brother is an accomplished professional rock singer/frontman/musician.  It’s just in my blood I guess.  I credit my dad for teaching me how to harmonize and my brother for inspiring me to play guitar.

Learning to play guitar, I grew up listening to classic rock and ’80s “guitar rock” (as well as everything else that came along with the ’80s). My musical tastes are pretty eclectic, but I tend to listen to rock most often. Here is a cross-section of stan-outs from my iTunes library::

Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joe Satriani, U2, The Toadies,  Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, Elvis Costello, Elvis Presley, Weezer, Alice in Chains (the first few albums), Brian Setzer, Harry Connick, Jr., Elastica, Warrant, Extreme (don’t laugh, Nuno rules), Run-DMC, Andrés Segovia, The Andrews Sisters, Perry Como, Better Than Ezra, Bjork, The Cardigans, Arctic Monkeys,  Hoobastank, The Raconteurs, Beck, Coheed & Cambria, Interpol.
